APTS Membership Badge

Anyone who worked for the BBC Television Service at Alexandra Palace between 1936 onwards, whether behind the scenes, performing in front of the cameras or on the studio or outside broadcast crews, is eligible to join.

Television at Alexandra Palace spanned 5 decades and saw many new technical developments take place. It is hoped, eventually, to have written accounts, original documentation, photographs, and perhaps even equipment, from all these varying different eras of television.

From housing the world's first regular, public, high-definition television service, Alexandra Palace went on to become home to BBC Television News, Britain's first experimental colour service, and finally Open University.

APTS is not a formal society, and has no membership or subscription charges. It acts as a means of reuniting former working colleagues, recording reminiscences of working life within the Television Service, and more importantly, to build an Archive to preserve the multitude of material, acquired by former BBC staff, detailed elsewhere on this site.
